Good morning, people.
Don’t see us as your enemies just because we missed your yesterday’s Duck — let's just say a technical error happened. But if you’re mad, go ahead and👉 drop a gali 🤬 — we can take it.
And speaking of enemies...
Jamaat’s Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud had a message for you 📢:“If you see us as your enemies, you’re declaring yourself an enemy of the Qur’an.” 😳

BTW We suggest not to see anyone as your enemy— keep it chill ✌️

💰 Bd Just Got Its Smallest Budget in 15 Years

Source: The Financial Express.

First time since 1971, Bd’s national budget has shrunk — not grown. The interim govt has proposed a Tk7.9 lakh crore budget for FY26, down 0.9% from last year__now stands at just 12.65% of GDP — the lowest in 15 years. For context, that ratio was 18.2% in FY20.  With inflation still hot, investor trust shaky, and a fragile banking sector, the interim govt has opted for caution over ambition. Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed put it plainly — the focus is now on “fixing the foundation,” not chasing flashy growth.

Big Picture:

  • Budget size vs GDP: Just 12.65% of GDP —lowest in 15 years.

  • Revenue target: Tk 5.4 lakh crore, including a VAT collection target of Tk 1.45 lakh crore.

  • Budget deficit: Tk 2.57 lakh crore, or 4.6% of GDP — to be financed via Tk 1.5 lakh crore in domestic borrowing and Tk 1.02 lakh crore from foreign sources.

Game Plan:

Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed calls it a “realistic and reformist budget.” meaning: fewer big projects, more structural clean-up.

  • ADP (development budget): Slashed to Tk 2.65 lakh crore (from Tk 2.78 lakh crore).

  • Subsidies: Tk 1.2 lakh crore allocated — covering food, power, gas, fertilizer.

  • Education + health: Together got Tk 1.06 lakh crore — still far below global norms.

  • Defence + security: Tk 50,000 crore combined.

But there’s a trade-off. Job creation and private investment didn’t get the push many had hoped for. And with VAT exemptions rolling back on items like ACs, refrigerators (15%), plastic goods(10%), and online shopping commissions(5%), the middle class is bracing for higher prices.

⚖️ High Court has upheld death sentences for former OC Pradip Kumar Das and Inspector Liaquat Ali in the murder of Major (Retd.) Sinha Rashed Khan, while six others got life imprisonment. The verdict closes a long legal chapter on the 2020 killing that shook Cox’s Bazar, reinforcing accountability in a high-profile case. Appeals are still possible, but the court’s stance is firm.

⚡️ 400kV transmission line linking Ruppur Nuclear Power Plant to Gopalganj is now fully operational, completing the crucial infrastructure to feed the plant’s electricity into Bd’s national grid. Spanning 158 km with 414 towers, this line joins two earlier ones, each handling up to 2,000 MW, marking a major step toward the country’s clean energy future.

🚅 BD's first-ever monorail is coming to Chattogram to ease traffic woes. The city corporation signed an MoU with global firms Orascom and Arab Contractors to start feasibility studies for the roughly 54 km line, a ৳20,000–25,000 crore project fully funded by foreign investors.

🚨 Ukraine pulled off its biggest long-range strike of the war, hitting at least 40 Russian warplanes across four military bases, including sites in Siberia and the Arctic. The operation,”Spider’s Web", used 117 smuggled FPV drones hidden in mobile wooden cabins carried on trucks to launch a coordinated attack on strategic bombers like the Tu-95 and Tu-22M3, which make up a third of Russia’s cruise missile carriers. Zelensky hailed the strike as “absolutely brilliant,” claiming it caused roughly $7 billion in damage and severely dented Russia’s airpower.

The strike’s timing—right before peace talks in Istanbul—sends a powerful message: Ukraine is far from beaten and has the reach and ingenuity to strike deep inside Russian territory. The operation took a year and a half to plan, with pilots controlling each drone individually, and the command post reportedly located shockingly close to Russia’s own FSB headquarters. While Russia confirmed the attacks and labeled them a “terrorist act,” it claimed all airbase defenses were effective and losses minimal, though Ukrainian sources say at least 13 aircraft were destroyed.

🗳️ South Korea’s political chaos just handed Lee Jae-myung a major boost in the presidential race. After former president Yoon Suk Yeol’s failed martial law move sparked a constitutional crisis and Yoon’s impeachment, Lee emerged as the Democratic Party’s frontrunner—despite ongoing legal battles and an assassination attempt. The election on June 3 could reshape Seoul’s power game, but Lee’s future still hinges on court verdicts.

🤖 Neuralink just secured $650M in a Series E round, boosting its valuation to about $9 billion. Backed by like Sequoia and ARK Invest, the Elon Musk-led startup is advancing its brain-computer chip tech—already implanted in five paralyzed patients—and has FDA breakthrough device status to speed things up.

This year's budget is somewhat exceptional. For the first time in the country's history, we are proposing a smaller budget for the next fiscal year than the budget of FY2024-25. Moving away from a growth-centric concept, we have tried to emphasise the concept of holistic development.
