🚫 India Bans RMG Imports from Bangladesh via Land Ports

Source: X.
India has imposed an immediate ban on importing Bangladeshi ready-made garments (RMG) and processed food products through its land ports, according to a May 17 directive from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). Imports will now only be allowed via Kolkata and Nhava Sheva seaports.
Other banned items include carbonated drinks, fruits, cotton waste, and wooden furniture, affecting land ports in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, and parts of West Bengal. However, essential items like fish, LPG, edible oil, and crushed stone are exempt. Goods transiting to Nepal and Bhutan are also not affected.
This move is seen as a non-tariff barrier, likely to delay shipments and increase costs, as over 90% of Bangladesh’s $700 million RMG exports to India currently use land routes.

Tea gardens in our country should have ticketing arrangements for tourists. If tourists can afford to stay in expensive resorts, paying a small ticket fee of 20 taka won’t be a burden for them. This ticket money can be used for the welfare of the workers.
