Good morning, folks! Here’s a seriously next-level flex: Ikramul Hasan Shakil just became the 7th Bangladeshi to conquer Everest — but get this, he didn’t just fly in. Nope, he walked over 1,400 kilometers starting from the beach at Cox’s Bazar all the way to the base camp before making the final push to the top. That’s literally walking from sea level to the world’s tallest peak.

🚫 India Curbs Imports from Bangladesh

Source: PIP
India has slapped new restrictions on imports from Bangladesh via land routes, limiting entry of key export items like garments, processed foods, plastic goods, and furniture into several northeastern states and parts of West Bengal. From now on, only two seaports — Haldia and Navi Mumbai — can be used for garment exports. As a result, hundreds of trucks have been stranded at key border points like Benapole and Burimari.
India is Bangladesh’s 8th largest export destination, with $1.57B worth of goods shipped in FY 2023–24 — mostly garments and processed foods. Meanwhile, Bangladesh imported $9B from India, including vital industrial raw materials. Despite the trade imbalance, Bangladeshi brands like Pran have gained real ground in India’s northeast. This move comes on the heels of Bangladesh restricting land-based yarn imports from India last month — prompting speculation this is a tit-for-tat response.
While India only accounts for 3.75% of Bangladesh’s total exports, this decision hits exporters hard — especially brands built around the land route advantage. Companies like Pran and Hatil face logistical nightmares and rising costs. If the standoff lingers, it could chill bilateral trade and push Bangladeshi exporters to reconsider regional strategies. TL;DR: Not a massive macro hit, but a gut punch to businesses banking on the Indian market.

Volume rose nearly 25% and unit prices nudged up 3.5%—a rare hat-trick of value, quantity, and price gains. With the EU’s total garment import also up 17%, it’s clear: fast fashion’s still in, and Bangladesh is sewing up its edge.

With Eid around the corner and zero clarity on when dues will drop, workers say they’re done waiting. Factory owners are blaming bank delays, while cops are walking the tightrope between traffic chaos and worker frustration.

🚨 For the third straight day, chaos hit ICC International as over 100 workers collapsed with dizziness, nausea, and more—bringing the total sick count to several hundred. Docs suspect mass psychogenic illness, but the fact that it started after drinking factory water has eyebrows raised. Investigations are ongoing, while 80+ are still being treated.
