🚩 Campus Unrest Sweeps Three Major Universities

At CU, two rounds of brutal clashes between students and nearby villagers, sparked by the alleged assault of a female student left more than 240 people wounded, some with machete injuries. Section 144 has been imposed, and joint forces including army and Rab are patrolling the campus. In Mymensingh, BAU was closed indefinitely after outsiders allegedly attacked students protesting for a single combined degree. Meanwhile, at RU, scuffles broke out among rival student groups over whether first-year students should be included in the upcoming Rucsu polls.
Now, at CU, a probe committee has been formed, but trust between students and locals looks fractured. BAU students are rejecting the closure order and pressing new 6 points demands, signaling more protests ahead. And RU’s election drama may only deepen as rival groups push conflicting agendas. Beyond the immediate injuries, the bigger picture is troubling: campus clashes no longer stay confined to campuses. With national elections on the horizon and student bodies historically shaping political momentum, these flashpoints could ripple far beyond classrooms into the country’s political heart.

✋ Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has assured BNP, Jamaat, and NCP that the 13th national election will be held in early February, warning that “any alternative would be disastrous.” BNP backed the timeline, rejecting any delay, while Jamaat and NCP argued reforms under the July Charter must come first raising fresh tensions over how to balance political reform with keeping the election on schedule.

▶ Entrepreneurs are hitting pause on new projects as extortion, weak law and order, and sky-high borrowing costs bite. Central bank data shows industrial term-loan disbursement slumping to a 7-quarter low, while capital machinery imports dropped over 25%. Business leaders from textiles to steel say they’re waiting for February’s election before betting big again.
❌ After months of controversy, police headquarters has begun transferring “disputed” officers linked to the Sylhet white stone looting cases. Companyganj OC Uzair Al Mahmud Adnan and Gowainghat OC Sarkar Tofayel Ahmad are the latest to be moved, following earlier transfers of 22 field officers. A recent ACC report alleged senior Sylhet police officials including the DC and SP, took cuts from the illegal trade, sparking unrest in the force and prompting a wider reshuffle ahead of the polls.

🤝 India - China New Economic-partnership

Narendra Modi wrapped up a high-profile visit to China this week, meeting President Xi Jinping at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit. The key takeaways: direct flights between the two countries will resume, visa processes will be simplified, and both sides pledged to work through differences for the benefit of their combined 2.8 billion people. The visit comes as the U.S. has slammed India with tariffs of up to 50% on exports like garments, gems, and chemicals — a direct response to Delhi’s continued Russian oil imports.
India and China share a history of mistrust, from the deadly 2020 border clashes in Ladakh to China’s close ties with Pakistan and other regional disputes. Modi has long tried to balance strategic relationships, engaging both China and the U.S., while keeping India’s “all-weather” partnership with Russia intact. Trump’s tariff blitz appears to have accelerated Delhi’s pivot toward Beijing, at least on the economic front.
What’s next? Think cautious collaboration. India wants access to China’s manufacturing prowess and smoother trade, while China sees a massive consumer market in India. But border tensions, trade deficits, and geopolitical rivalries remain.

🚨 A powerful 6.0-magnitude quake has devastated eastern Afghanistan, killing over 800 and injuring thousands. Entire villages in Kunar and Nangarhar provinces were flattened, with hospitals overwhelmed and survivors trapped under rubble. Rescue efforts are hampered by landslides and blocked roads, forcing the use of helicopters. The UN says more than 12,000 people are directly affected, with urgent needs for shelter, food, and medical care. Pakistan, India, Japan, and the EU have pledged support, while locals describe losing entire families overnight.
✔️ More than 50 ships from 44 countries are heading to Gaza to deliver humanitarian aid and challenge Israel’s blockade. The flotilla, organised by coalitions including the Freedom Flotilla Coalition and Global Movement to Gaza, carries activists, doctors, and volunteers including Greta Thunberg and other prominent figures. Previous flotillas have often been intercepted by Israeli forces, sometimes violently, but organisers stress the mission is legal under international law.

(During BDR massacre,) Provocative messages were sent from BSF border posts in India to BDR border posts in Bangladesh. The gist of the message was that BDR members should rebel, that the army was coming to kill them and that they should take up arms. Unfortunately, our soldiers fell into that trap.
