🚫 India bans import of certain jute, textile products via Land

India just slapped fresh restrictions on Bd’s exports, banning imports of nine product categories including jute, garments, and processed foods through land ports. These goods can now only enter via Mumbai’s Nhava Sheva Port, spiking logistics costs and transit times. Bd’s export earnings, already down 16.16% for jute in FY 2023-24 to $855.23 million, face a new threat as India accounts for $1.7 billion of its trade.
This isn’t the first blow. India started tightening the screws in April and May, curbing imports of garments, plastics, and more, while Bangladesh retaliated by banning Indian cotton yarn to shield its textile industry. Strained ties since the fall of Hasina in August 2024, sparking tit-for-tat trade barriers.
These curbs could choke Bd’s export competitiveness, especially in jute and garments, as higher costs via sea routes erode profits. With global demand already shaky, prolonged restrictions might jeopardize Bd’s zero-duty access to India, a massive blow to an economy leaning on $1.6 billion in exports (July-May this fiscal year).

🚨 Canada’s new 3% digital services tax, hitting tech giants like Amazon and Google on revenue from Canadian users, has sparked a trade war with the U.S., as President Trump abruptly halted talks and threatened tariffs within days, calling it a “blatant attack” on American companies. The tax, retroactive to 2022, could cost U.S. firms $2 billion, while Canada’s PM Mark Carney faces pressure from local businesses to scrap it to avoid economic fallout.
⛔ Israeli air strikes on Gaza City’s al-Tuffah neighbourhood killed at least 20 people, including nine children, as part of a broader assault that left 81 dead and 422 wounded in the past 24 hours, worsening the hunger crisis ravaging the enclave. Who Won the Iran-Israel-USA War?

The 12-day war between Israel, Iran, and the US ended in a shaky ceasefire on June 24, 2025, with each side claiming victory. Israel, led by Netanyahu, says it crippled Iran’s nuclear facilities and missile launchers while taking out top military boss and scientists, calling it a “historic victory.” Iran hit back, damaging Israel’s power stations and oil refineries, and struck a US base in Qatar, with Supreme Leader Khamenei claiming they ‘heavy slap to US’s face.” The US, under Trump, brags about “obliterating” Iran’s nuclear sites with bunker-buster bombs, though intelligence leaks suggest the damage was minimal, setting Iran’s program back just months. Trump’s eyeing a Nobel Peace Prize for brokering the ceasefire, while Qatar claims some credit too.
This mess kicked off on June 13 when Israel launched a surprise attack on Iran’s nuclear sites, Netanyahu had been planning for years despite Trump’s initial push for diplomacy. Tensions had been simmering since Israel dismantled Iran’s allies, Hamas and Hezbollah, leaving Iran vulnerable. Trump, after resisting, joined the fray with US strikes on Iran’s Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan facilities, aiming to flex American muscle and back Israel. Both sides traded heavy blows Israel hit Tehran hard, Iran retaliated with missiles piercing Israel’s defenses but the ceasefire came after Trump publicly scolded both for violations. Netanyahu’s real motive? Some say it was to distract from Gaza’s ongoing destruction and his failure to crush Hamas.
The real losers? Palestinians. While the world focused on this high-stakes showdown, Israel kept up its Gaza campaign, reportedly killing around 100 Palestinians daily. The war shifted global attention from Gaza’s humanitarian crisis, where 56,000 have died over 20 months. What’s next? The ceasefire fragile both sides are itching to restart if provoked. Iran’s talking nuclear negotiations with the US next week, but trust is thin. Netanyahu’s domestic support is shaky, with polls showing Israelis doubt his victory claims.
